Rebel Yell

Your leadership team is too intelligent to stay stuck here.

A private diagnostic and intervention for founders, owners, CEOs and senior leadership teams who have reached an impasse … where more meetings, another strategy day or another round of polite agreement will not solve what is really happening.

For consequential problems that require clear thinking, honest conversations and the willingness to let truth lead.

Let truth lead.

Everyone can explain the problem. That doesn’t mean the explanation is true.

By the time a leadership team reaches an impasse, it will usually have a perfectly reasonable account of what is going wrong.

  • It’s an accountability problem.
  • A communication problem.
  • A difficult executive.
  • A strategy that hasn’t landed.
  • People are resisting change.
  • The founder needs to let go.
  • The team needs to step up.
  • Everyone needs to become more aligned.

Some of that may be true.

It may also be the explanation the system has learned to live with.

Capable people are very good at constructing rational explanations for problems with far less rational forces underneath them. History, loyalty, fear, status, unspoken conflict, incentives, identity, old decisions nobody wants to revisit and truths the group does not yet have the capacity to discuss can all quietly shape what happens next.

The accepted diagnosis can become part of what keeps the problem in place.

Then the organisation does more of what it already knows how to do. It holds another meeting, introduces another process, restructures responsibilities or brings in a facilitator to help everybody communicate more effectively.

People leave with action points.
Nothing essential changes.

The meeting ends. Everyone nods. The real meeting begins afterwards.

You may recognise some version of this:

  1. Decisions are made and then quietly reopened.
  2. The same disagreement keeps returning under different names.
  3. Senior people agree in the room and resist outside it.
  4. Everybody is busy, yet movement on what matters remains strangely slow.
  5. A founder wants greater ownership from the team but unknowingly keeps reclaiming control.
  6. The team has become careful with one another, which is being mistaken for trust.
  7. One person has become the identified problem while the system surrounding them remains conveniently unexamined.
  8. The organisation has outgrown the way it became successful, but too much identity is attached to the old way.
  9. The stated strategy and the lived culture are producing entirely different instructions.
  10. People understand the issue intellectually and still cannot behave differently when the pressure returns.

These problems rarely yield to another piece of information. The people involved are often intelligent, experienced and already familiar with the language of leadership.

What they cannot easily see is the system they are inside.

What Rebel Yell does

We begin with the outcome. Including whether it is the outcome you genuinely want.

Organisations often arrive with a stated objective that has already been negotiated into something respectable.

Improve accountability. Strengthen the culture. Repair trust. Create alignment. Lift performance. Prepare the next generation of leaders.

I want to know what would be different if the work genuinely succeeded. What would people be doing that they are not doing now? What decisions would become possible? What would stop happening? What would the organisation gain, and what might somebody have to relinquish?

Sometimes the requested outcome is real.

Sometimes it is a safer substitute for the outcome people actually want.

That distinction changes everything.

Then I read the system that is producing the current reality.

I look across the organisation rather than accepting the presenting problem at face value.

Depending on what is happening, that may include the wider environment and culture, structures and incentives, leadership behaviour, team dynamics, decision-making, capability, emotional patterns and the small moments where stated intentions repeatedly become something else.

I draw on tested frameworks, benchmarks and criteria for success. I also draw on more than three decades of watching what people do when what they say they want collides with what they are organised to protect.

The work may move between levels very quickly. A strategic problem can contain a relationship problem. A team dynamic can be reinforced by a structural decision. An apparently rational disagreement can be organised around fear, status or identity. A founder may be trying to solve at an organisational level what is actually happening inside one conversation.

The level at which the problem presents is not always the level at which it can be changed.

I identify the differences that matter.

There may be dozens of differences between the current system and one capable of producing the desired outcome. They are not equally important.

The task is to find the leverage.

Which missing capability changes several downstream problems? Which accepted belief has distorted the diagnosis? Which conversation has been repeatedly avoided? Which structure rewards the behaviour everyone claims to oppose? Which person is carrying something that belongs to the system? Where has the organisation confused agreement with alignment, activity with progress or emotional control with actual capacity?

This is where a generic leadership program becomes useless. It teaches what was prepared in advance.

Rebel Yell works with what is true here.

Remi listening closely, composed and attentive

I will probably see more than I say.

That is deliberate.

Insight without calibration can do damage.

Dumping every observation onto a person or team may look fearless, but it can produce shame, defensiveness, confusion, collapse or a very convincing performance of agreement. The truth has technically been spoken, and nothing usable has happened.

I calibrate continuously.

What does this person understand already? What can the team remain emotionally present to? Which truth will open the system, and which one will close it? Who needs to hear what, in what language, and in what sequence? What can be revealed now and integrated before we move further?

I work at the edge of the system’s current emotional and intellectual bandwidth. I surface enough to challenge the pattern without overwhelming the people who must change it. Then I watch what happens, recalibrate and choose the next intervention.

This pacing is not politeness. It is precision.

The benchmark for success may remain stable. The route towards it will change according to the people, the problem and what becomes visible as the work progresses.

Truth leads at the speed the system can genuinely metabolise it.

What an engagement may involve

Rebel Yell is designed around a live business problem, so the final structure follows the diagnosis.

I am not moving into your organisation, attending weekly status meetings or manufacturing months of consulting activity to justify a retainer.

I stay involved closely enough to see what happens when insight meets the real system. That is where good intentions encounter old behaviour, operational pressure and the first genuinely difficult decision.

Sometimes one concentrated intervention creates the movement required. Sometimes the initial work reveals a deeper organisational issue that warrants a longer advisory relationship. We will know more once we have stopped guessing about the problem.

An engagement may include:

  1. An initial confidential conversation with the founder, CEO or accountable executive
  2. Review of the stated problem, desired outcome and relevant organisational context
  3. Selected interviews, assessments or examination of existing material where useful
  4. A private intensive with the leadership team, delivered in person, online or through a combination of both
  5. Direct coaching, mentoring, facilitation, education and intervention according to what the situation requires
  6. A clear account of what is currently happening, what needs to become possible and where the leverage sits
  7. Light-touch advisory support while the team implements, observes and adjusts
  8. Further intervention when the next layer becomes visible

Who Rebel Yell is for

Rebel Yell is for a founder, owner, CEO or senior leadership team facing something consequential enough that continuing to circle it has become expensive.

You may be at an inflection point, dealing with unresolved tension, preparing for substantial growth, struggling to execute a strategy, navigating founder dependence, integrating new leadership or watching an intelligent team become less effective than the people within it should allow.

You are prepared to examine the diagnosis as seriously as the solution.

You understand that the person commissioning the work may also be part of the system being examined.

You want candour, but you also value judgment. The aim is movement that holds, not the theatre of somebody arriving and telling everyone a few brutal truths.

Rebel Yell will be a poor fit if:

  • You want a motivational speaker for an offsite.
  • You have already decided who is to blame and want an expert to confirm it.
  • You want a prewritten workshop delivered regardless of what is happening.
  • The senior decision-makers will not participate.
  • You want the appearance of change without allowing anything important to become discussable.
  • You believe the team needs fixing while leadership remains exempt.

Why me?

I founded, built and eventually sold The Coaching Institute, a business that generated more than $200 million over 23 years.

During that time, I developed intellectual property across human behaviour, emotional change, leadership, decision-making, organisational alignment, consultative sales and the movement from founder-led practice to enterprise.

I know the emotional and structural reality of building a company because I have lived it. I know what it is to hold the vision, become central to too many decisions, develop leaders, protect culture, create systems, grow intellectual property, make difficult commercial calls and discover that the thing which created success at one stage can become the constraint at the next.

My work has always crossed boundaries that organisations usually keep separate.

Strategy affects identity. Structure affects behaviour. Emotional capacity affects decision quality. Leadership dynamics affect execution. People can understand what needs to change and remain unable to do it when the moment arrives.

I work with the whole reality.

Why “Rebel Yell”?

Every organisation develops an approved version of reality.

Somebody eventually has to become willing to question it.

A rebel yell is the moment the organisation stops cooperating with an explanation that no longer fits the evidence. It breaks the spell of “this is just how it is,” without replacing thought with noise, rebellion for its own sake or reckless confrontation.

There is still judgment. There is care. There is calibration.

And there is a point at which the truth needs to be allowed into the room.

Let truth lead.

Rebel Yell will be offered to a small number of organisations because the work depends on my direct involvement.

Joining the waitlist gives you early access when conversations open. It does not commit you to an engagement. I will ask enough to understand what is happening and whether Rebel Yell is appropriate for the problem you are facing.

If it is, we will begin with a confidential conversation.

If it isn’t, I will tell you.

Tell me what has stopped moving.

Your information will be treated confidentially. Joining the waitlist does not subscribe you to unrelated marketing or commit you to working together.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rebel Yell coaching, consulting or facilitation?

The work can include all of them. I use the form of intervention the problem requires rather than forcing every organisation through the same professional label.

At different moments, I may diagnose, question, teach, facilitate, challenge, coach, mentor or help redesign an element of the system. The purpose determines the method.

How long is an engagement?

It begins with diagnosis and a concentrated intervention. Some organisations may need only a small amount of follow-through. Others may benefit from a longer, light-touch advisory relationship while the leadership team implements the change.

The scope is agreed once I understand the situation. You will not be sold months of involvement before we know what the problem requires.

Is the work in person or online?

Both. The likely format is a combination of in-person and online work, designed around the team, location and nature of the issue.

Does the whole leadership team need to participate?

Usually, the people with the authority to shape the system must be involved. Sometimes the work begins with the founder or CEO. Sometimes selected interviews are useful before bringing the leadership team together.

I will recommend participation based on what needs to change, not organisational etiquette.

What kinds of problems are appropriate?

Rebel Yell is designed for live, consequential problems involving leadership, execution, strategic alignment, founder dependence, team dynamics, culture, organisational change or an impasse the business has been unable to think its way through.

Is joining the waitlist an application?

It is the beginning of a conversation. Rebel Yell will not suit every organisation, and I will only accept work where I believe my involvement can make a meaningful difference.

What does it cost?

The investment will depend on the scope, preparation, delivery format and level of advisory support required. You will receive a clear recommendation and investment before deciding whether to proceed.

The problem will keep producing evidence until something essential changes.

If your leadership team has reached an impasse, you probably do not need another explanation of why the situation is difficult.

You need to discover whether you are solving the right problem, what the current system is protecting and which truth can create movement now.
